THREE BASEBALL, ONE SOFTBALL PLAYER NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS

ORANGE, Calif. – Three Chapman University baseball players and one softball player have earned ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Seniors Brian Brubaker, John Alexander and Billy Sulentor, as well as senior Kim Sanders were named to the District VIII team for their accomplishments on and off the diamond.

Brubaker, who leads the West Region champion Panthers baseball team with a .423 batting average, has also belted five home runs and 35 RBI. He also recorded a team-high 17-game hitting streak while earning a 3.46 GPA in business in four years at Chapman. Alexander is batting .392 with a team-best 37 RBI heading into the World Series and leads the team with a .514 on-base percentage. He earned a 3.57 GPA in journalism. For Brubaker and Alexander it’s their second consecutive honor.

Sulentor is 5-4 with a 3.23 ERA after throwing another complete game in the regional playoffs last weekend. The left-hander struck out 80 batters in over 86 innings and allowed opponents to hit just .243 against him, while earning a 3.34 GPA in political science.

Sanders was named to the All-District softball first team after leading the Panthers in nearly every offensive category in 2006. The infielder/catcher batted .375 with 16 doubles, nine home runs and 29 RBI for Chapman, which reached the regional playoffs for the fourth straight year. She compiled a GPA of 3.33 in public relations and advertising.

ESPN the Magazine sponsors the CoSIDA Academic All-America team which selects the best and brightest in college athletics. Chapman is a member of the District VIII College Division, which includes Division II, III and NAIA schools from throughout the Western United States.
