ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University baseball team put an exclamation point at the end of its season on Sunday with a 10-5 win over West Region rival George Fox University (Ore.) at Hart Park, cementing a 35-5 overall record and finishing the regular season by tying a season-high with eight straight victories. The spotlight shined bright on Chapman’s seniors on “Senior Day”. Senior OF Tyler Dean was 3-for-5 with a solo homer in the fourth inning and two RBI, while senior RHP Matt Ricatto (2-0) shook off a four-run George Fox first inning to throw a complete game six-hitter. It was Ricatto’s first career complete game. Senior IF Tyler Norman got in the act as well, driving in a run with a single in the seventh. The Panthers overcame a four-run first inning deficit by scoring single runs in the first and second innings, and then exploding for four runs in the third – all with two outs. Freshman C Joe Lehman gave Chapman the lead for good with a two-run single to make the score 6-4. Chapman finished with 14 hits, led by sophomore IF Kurt Yacko who was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs. Chapman, currently ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division III, will await the postseason selections on Sunday, May 13 to see not only if they earned a Pool ‘B’ at-large berth, but also if the Panthers will host the regional tournament for the fifth straight year.
