CHAPMAN IN CRUISE CONTROL IN HOME FINALE

ORANGE, Calif. – If the NCAA powers-that-be decide Hart Park be the site for the NCAA West Region playoffs next month – for the fourth consecutive year – that will be just fine with the Chapman University baseball team. That is, assuming the Panthers, ranked No. 1 in the West Region and No. 6 overall, earn an at-large berth into the postseason. Chapman won its seventh straight game at home on Friday afternoon, defeating visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges 14-2. The Panthers have won 10 of 11 at home and are 17-4 at Hart Park since the beginning of March.

Chapman (26-8) sent its seniors off in style on “Senior Day”, scoring nine times in the first three innings and making a winner out of senior left-hander Billy Sulentor, who struck out four and allowed just four hits in five innings. Sulentor improved to 4-3 this season and lowered his ERA to 2.81.

The Panther offense was highlighted by a three-run home run by sophomore outfielder Steve Fraser in the third inning. It was Fraser’s third dinger of the year and he finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs. Tyler Dean, John Alexander and Kyle Redding also had two hits apiece as Chapman pounded out 14 hits (or more) for the eighth time this year.

Freshman outfielder Jordan Wlodarczyk put a bow on the victory with his first career homer in the eighth inning, a two-run shot that gave the Panthers their 14-2 lead.

For Claremont (18-16), Kyle Seminara was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.
