FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ‘SENIOR DAY’ IS A SPLIT WITH POMONA ORANGE, Calif. – D3baseball.com’s No. 1-ranked Chapman University split a Saturday doubleheader with No. 11-ranked Pomona Pitzer College (27-7), ending the Panthers’ record 20-game winning streak in their season’s last home games at Hart Park. Chapman underclassmen stole Game 1 of ‘Senior Day’ when junior IF Tristan Phillips’ solo homerun broke open a 5-5 ballgame in the fourth inning. The Panthers then recorded their first loss since Feb. 29 in Game 2 when Pomona’s Tom Church (6-2) held them to one run and seven hits. Game 1: Chapman 7, Pomona Pitzer 5 Sagehen starter David Colvin (9-1) was handed his first loss after Phillips’ fifth-inning solo home run made the Panther a triple short of hitting a cycle. Junior IF Kurt Yacko once again proved his All-America status in the batter’s box and on the mound, going 4-for-5 and earning his 11th save of the year. Game 2: Pomona Pitzer 6, Chapman 1 The Panthers were held to one run in the fourth inning, the last career home run at Hart Park for senior IF Stuart Hyman.
