FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – April 12 is just another one for the books. The Chapman University baseball team celebrated a record-breaking 18th consecutive win on Saturday afternoon at Hart Park in an 11-5 victory over visiting University of La Verne. Chapman (26-2) also made it 16 in a row at Hart Park, scoring four runs in the second and four runs in the eighth to open up what had been a close game to that point. The La Verne pitchers struggled to hold Chapman’s offense as it had in the first two games of the series. The Panthers capitalized on some erratic pitching to score four runs in the second inning. Chapman loaded the bases with nobody out and scored two runs on a pair of hit batters, followed by a two-run single by junior IF Kurt Yacko, who went 2-for-5 in the game with a double. Senior Mike Vass snapped a 5-5 tie in the fourth with his tenth homerun of the season, a two-run shot over the right-center field wall. Chapman had the last word in the three-game sweep, scoring four runs on four hits in the eighth, highlighted by a Vass RBI triple and a two-run single by junior IF Tristan Phillips. Junior IF Patrick Ohail went 3-for-4 with his career-best fifth home run of the season in the third. Freshman RHP Jordan Sigman earned his team-leading eighth win of the season, pitching seven innings and striking out three. Yacko allowed just one hit and struck out four over the final two innings to earn his 10th save of the year.
