ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University men’s baseball team took care of business on Saturday night as it defeated visiting Cal State East Bay 15-1 at Hart Park evening the three-game series at one win apiece. With three innings of three or more runs, the Panthers appeared unstoppable at the plate, pounding out 18 hits and having six players finish the game with at least two RBI. Chapman (18-7) took charge from the beginning by scoring five runs in the first two innings, but it was their third inning rally that put the game out of reach. Freshman infielder Kurt Yacko’s three-run home run, his second of the season, capped a four-run inning, giving Chapman a 9-1 lead. Yacko led the Panthers with four RBI and went 3-for-4. Things only got better as the Panthers’ momentum continued into the sixth. Sophomore infielder Kyle Redding and Yacko each contributed RBI singles followed by senior outfielder Brian Brubaker who capped the inning with a two-run double. Freshman infielder Patrick Ohail was 4-for-5 with two RBI and senior catcher John Alexander finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Senior Buddy Klovstad was the benefactor of the offensive support. Klovstad scattered eight hits and struck out seven in eight innings of work. The right-hander improved to 8-1 this season.
