FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – On the first official day of spring, Chapman University freshman RHP Jordan Sigman did some spring cleaning against the defending national champion Kean University (N.J.) lineup with a 1-0 victory at Hart Park on Thursday afternoon. Sigman pitched six shutout innings and allowed only six hits for his fifth win of the season. Chapman (17-2), ranked No. 1 in the nation by D3Baseball.com, won its ninth straight game and earned its second shutout of the year. It was the second time this week the Panthers have beaten No. 8 Kean. The only run of the game came on an RBI single in the first inning by senior IF Stuart Hyman, which plated sophomore OF Ryan Prechtl. Hyman, who went 3-for-3 with a double, has been red-hot for Chapman, going 10-for-15 with nine RBI in his last four games. Kean (11-4) sophomore starter Joe Barlinski gave the Chapman lineup heat in a complete game effort, allowing just five hits, while suffering the tough-luck loss. Junior RHP Kurt Yacko pitched the final three innings to earn his sixth save of the season. Yacko pitched out of trouble in the eighth and threw a perfect ninth to secure the win. The junior lowered his team-best ERA to 0.34.
