ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University All-American and junior RHP Wayde Kitchens earned his first win of the season in a 19-2 victory against defending national champion Kean University (N.J.) on Sunday night at Hart Park. Kitchens and sophomore RHP Travis Cross combined on a two-hitter in a rematch of last year’s Division III championships in which Kean sent Chapman into the loser’s bracket with a 3-1 win. Kitchens and Cross faced just one batter over the minimum over the final seven no-hit innings. Chapman (15-2), ranked No. 1 by D3Baseball.com extended its season-high winning streak to seven games, while halting No. 10 Kean’s (9-3) winning streak at eight. Panther leadoff batter, sophomore OF Ryan Hall sparked the offense with a 4-for-5 performance with four runs scored and drove in two with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Junior IF Kurt Yacko broke out of a 6-for-49 slump (.122), going 4-for-6 with six RBI and scoring two runs himself. Yacko hit just short of a cycle with two singles, a double and a triple. The Panthers’ lineup added each his own to the 19-run blowout. Junior IF Patrick Ohail, freshman OF John Semel, junior C Matt Pearson, and senior IF Kyle Redding each scored a pair of runs between a five inning stretch. Semel clubbed his third home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth.
