CHAPMAN DEFEATS CAL STATE SAN MARCOS, AGAIN

ORANGE, Calif. – A big third-inning rally gave the Chapman University baseball team enough room to secure an 11-8 victory over Cal State San Marcos on Friday afternoon at Hart Park. The Panthers beat the Cougars for the second time in as many weeks to sweep the season series.

Chapman (14-2) cycled through its lineup in the third to bring home six runs. The Panthers took a 4-3 on a squeeze bunt by senior IF Kyle Redding. The door was open for sophomore OF Ryan Prechtl who drove in two runs on a double to right-center. He finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and also pitched 2 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.

Senior OF Mike Vass completed the rally with his team-leading fifth homerun to left-center. He went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore C Joe Lehman was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored, as well.

San Marcos (8-11-1) started a late-inning rally with two runs in both the eighth and ninth, but the comeback was spoiled by freshman RHP Adam Kordich, who retired the final batter with the tying run at the plate. Sophomore RHP Matt Gomez earned his first career victory for Chapman, pitching four scoreless innings in relief.

The Cougars were led by Jackson Chapelone who went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI.
