FOUR-RUN EIGHTH GIVES CHAPMAN COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University baseball team scored four times in the bottom of the eight inning, rallying to defeat visiting Ithaca College (N.Y.) 5-3 at Hart Park on Wednesday afternoon. Junior DH Stuart Hyman’s two-run single snapped a 3-3 tie and capped the comeback.

No. 2 Chapman (16-2) had been limited to just a run and five hits through the first seven innings off of Bombers starter Ryan Mays. But consecutive hits from Ryan Prechtl (double), Ryan Cavan (game-tying RBI) and Tyler Dean with two outs in the eighth set up Hyman’s heroics. Prechtl and Hyman had a pair of hits and two RBI, apiece.

Sophomore RHP Wayde Kitchens scattered six hits and struck out six batters in eight innings to earn his fourth victory of the season (4-1). Senior All-America RHP Devin Drag pitched a scoreless ninth to record his second save.

Ithaca (1-3), ranked No. 20 in Division III, scored a pair of runs in the third inning on a two-run single from DH Rob Raux and added a run in the fourth on an RBI single from IF Kurt Bednarcyk. Bednarcyk finished 2-for-3 for Ithaca (1-3).

The Panthers improved to 10-1 at home this season.
