TOP-25 MATCHUP GOES PANTHERS’ WAY

ORANGE, Calif. – In a matchup of two top-25 teams, the Chapman University baseball team defeated visiting Ithaca College (N.Y.) 4-3 at Hart Park on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers rallied to score a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and the Panthers’ pitching made the lead stand up. Chapman, ranked No. 1 in Division III by D3Baseball.com, has now won a season-high five straight games.

Senior RHP Ryan Clear turned in possibly his best performance of the season, allowing just two runs on five hits in seven innings of work. Junior RHP Kurt Yacko gave up an unearned run in two innings and struck out three in two innings to earn his fifth save of the season. Clear improved to 3-1 this year.

Chapman (13-2) capitalized on an errant pickoff attempt to score its first run of the game in the fourth. Soon after, senior IF Kyle Redding’s sacrifice fly tied the game 2-2. In the fifth, senior DH Stuart Hyman doubled in a run and then scored on junior IF Tristan Phillips’ sac fly. Hyman finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk.

For Ithaca (1-3), ranked No. 19 in Division III, C Rob Raux homered and had three hits. The Bombers lost their third straight game.
