ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University baseball team defeated the visiting University of Redlands squad 9-2 at Hart Park on Saturday afternoon. The win marked right-hander Buddy Klovstad’s 17th straight victory as the All-America senior only allowed just two hits in eight innings while striking out six. Chapman avenged its Wednesday night loss against the Bulldogs to improve their record 11-4. After a stagnant three innings, the two teams exchanged jabs in the fourth inning. Chapman tied the game at 1-1 when senior catcher John Alexander collected the first of two RBI singles, which brought home Tyler Dean, who had led off the inning with a double. However, Redlands killed the Panthers’ rally when they turned a rare triple play on a Patrick Ohail line drive while runners from first and second were moving on the pitch. Chapman scored a pair in the sixth, and then exploded in the seventh inning as senior outfielder Brian Brubaker’s grand slam capped a six-run inning and solidified the Panthers’ victory. Brubaker was 2-for-2 with four RBI and has now homered in three straight games. Dean and Alexander had three hits apiece.
