ORANGE, Calif. – The No. 1-ranked Chapman University baseball team rebounded from a Friday loss to the University of Redlands with a 9-3 victory at Hart Park on Saturday afternoon. The victory improved the Panthers to 6-1 at home this season. The Panthers’ offensive contributions came from the entire starting lineup. Eight of the nine Chapman starters had at least one hit and junior C Matt Pearson – the only player not to collect a hit – had three walks and two runs scored. Chapman (9-2) overcame an early 1-0 deficit with two runs in the second inning on an RBI double by senior IF Kyle Redding. The Panthers would then take the lead for good on a sacrifice fly by sophomore OF Ryan Prechtl, who collected three RBI in the game. Prechtl added a two-run single to cap a three-run the fourth inning for the Panthers. Redding and junior IF Tristan Phillips had two hits and one run apiece. Freshman RHP Jordan Sigman (3-0) allowed just four hits to No. 19 Redlands in seven and a third innings for the Panthers. Chapman will re-visit the site of its series-opening loss and play the three-game series finale at Redlands on Sunday. The rubber-match of this top-25 battle is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
