ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University snapped a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Kurt Yacko and received two shutout innings by senior RHP Devin Drag in relief to preserve a 4-3 victory over visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Division III baseball action at Hart Park on Tuesday afternoon. Chapman (9-1) improved to 4-0 at home this season. Yacko was again the hero at the plate and on the mound. The sophomore was 3-for-4 with three RBI including a run-scoring double in the third inning. He scored a run later in the inning to give him and the Panthers a 3-1 lead. The right-hander left after five innings having allowed just three hits and striking out seven. Yacko is currently batting .476 with 18 RBI in Chapman’s first 10 games. Claremont (3-4) rallied in the seventh inning when Alex Webber-Shapiro’s two-run home run to right tied the score at 3-3. Webber-Shapiro finished the game 2-for-3 with all three of the Stags RBI. The Panthers came right back in the bottom of the inning. Senior OF Tyler Dean led off with a double and scored on Yacko’s single to put Chapman ahead for good, making a winner out of senior reliever Matt Ricatto (1-0). Drag, who saved eight games for Chapman last season, earned his first save this season and lowered his team-best ERA to 0.39. Junior IF Kyle Redding went 2-for-4 and had his team-leading batting average lowered to .559 for Chapman. Game stats available online: |
