RAIN RUINS FIVE-GAME WINNING STREAK FOR CHAPMAN

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University’s baseball team entered this weekend’s three-game series against McMurry University (Texas) on a four-game winning streak, posting its fifth consecutive win against the Indians Friday at Hart Park. The rain brought with it an end to the Panthers winning streak as McMurry won the final two games of the series, giving Chapman back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

Game 2: McMurry 9, Chapman 5 (7 innings)
After halting the second game of the series due to rain, the Panthers resumed play Saturday afternoon already trailing 4-1. McMurry (2-1) opened the fourth inning with five runs taking a 9-1 lead with two RBI’s from both Chris Manley and Greg Erickson.

The Panthers rallied for four in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead in half. Chapman’s (6-3) attempts were brought to a close even with center fielder Tyler Dean’s three RBI’s from his third home run of the season and John Alexander’s home run, the second of the inning.

Game 3: McMurry 8, Chapman 5
Tied 1-1 at the top of the third, McMurry took an early go ahead when first baseman Brent Voorhees hit a home run with runners on first and third giving the Indians a 5-1 lead. After one more McMurry run, the Panthers posted three runs in the bottom of the third from Matt Pearson, Dean, and Alexander.

Chapman third baseman Tyler Norman closed the two point gap for the Panthers drawing within one run of McMurry in the fourth inning. However, the Indians scored two more runs in the fifth as they stopped the Panthers efforts, posting the final win of the series.

Senior Brian Brubaker went 3-for-4 and posted one RBI.
