CHAPMAN ATHLETES CHU, EICH EARN ACADEMIC HONORS

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University junior men’s tennis player Robert Chu and senior women’s water player star Kristina Eich were named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII at-large teams. The honor is the second for Eich and the first for Chu.

Eich, a two-time All-America selection and Chapman’s career leader in goals, scored 47 goals, 34 assists and 64 steals this season and added 117 earned ejections for the Panthers, who ranked among the top-10 in the NCAA Division III rankings all season. Eich graduated last weekend with a 3.76 GPA in liberal studies.

Chu is also a two-time All-American and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III national championships last weekend. He posted a singles record of 21-7 and went 16-5 in doubles play in 2006. He has a 3.58 GPA in psychology.

ESPN the Magazine sponsors the CoSIDA Academic All-America team which selects the best and brightest in college athletics. Chapman is a member of the District VIII College Division, which includes Division II, III and NAIA schools from throughout the Western United States. And the at-large team encompasses 10 athletes from each district from a number of sports, including golf, lacrosse, swimming, water polo, tennis, ice and field hockey.
