In his first season as Chapman's head golf coach, Wheatley guided the Panthers to their second consecutive winning season at 5-4 overall. The rookie coach joined the Chapman coaching ranks in 2007 as a member of the basketball staff. Wheatley was a two-sport athlete at Chapman from 2003-06 when he played basketball and golf for the Panthers. During his time, he was twice named ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America and is only the second player in the school's Division III history to score over 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds in his career.
