It took just one season for Tom Tereschuk to secure his place in Chapman history. The rookie head coach led the Panthers to their first baseball national championship in 35 years when it won the Division III World Series in 2003. Since then, he has simply built one of the finest pitching programs in the nation. Tereschuk's 'pitching and defense' philosophy is evident in the Panthers ranking in the top-10 in team ERA in all five of his seasons and No. 20 in fielding percentage in Division III. He has guided the Panthers to the Division III World Series and four regional championships in five years and has earned West Region Coach of the Year three times, as well as ABCA Division III National Coach of the Year in 2003. Chapman has had one of the most successful programs in Division III over the past 11 seasons, earning 10 playoff berths, seven regional titles and a national championship. Before earning the top spot at Chapman, Tereschuk served as head coach at nearby Villa Park High School, winning two CIF Southern Section championships. He was honored as CIF-SS Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2002, and led the team to the CIF playoffs in all four of his years. He first familiarized himself with the Chapman University campus in 1994 when he began serving as the football team’s quarterbacks coach, a position he held through the 2004 season. Tereschuk played baseball at Long Beach City College and attended the University of San Diego on a baseball scholarship from 1978-82. He received bachelor’s degrees in history and political science from Cal State Long Beach in 1984 and 1987, respectively. He then earned a master’s degree in education from Whittier College in 1993.
