NO JITTERS FOR TEXAS-DALLAS IN GAME 1 WIN

ORANGE, Calif. - The newcomers looked like the saavy veterans in Game 1 of the NCAA Division III Baseball West Region Championships. University of Texas at Dallas used a three-run fourth inning to propel it to a 5-3 win over George Fox University (Ore.) on Wednesday at Hart Park.

The Comets,  who are participating in their first-ever NCAA postseason, will face host and top-ranked Chapman on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. George Fox, making their fifth playoff appearance in eight years, faces elimination later Wednesday against Chapman at 8 p.m.

UT-Dallas (33-11) built a 4-1 lead in the fourth when Chase Whitehead drew a one-out bases-loaded walk and Brett Rosen followed two batters later with a two-run single to left. The Comets, who rank second in Division III in batting, slugged 12 hits from eight different players. Jake Jackson was 3-for-5 with a pair of runs and Nick Hand had two doubles for UT-Dallas.

Comets' RHP Mark Cox (7-1) made the offense standup, scattering nine hits and striking out seven in eight innings. RHP Tim Flasik pitched the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.

The loss was the fourth straight for George Fox (30-10), which was swept in a three-game series by Chapman to end the regular season. Ryan Fobert and Pat Bailey each had a pair of hits and a run batted in for the Bruins.
