A true “people person” with a soft spot for Chapman athletics, Vaughan Kelley ’62 is no stranger to the Alumni Association. After serving 13 years as Executive Director with Boy Scouts of America, Vaughan became Chapman’s Director of Alumni Relations and Coordinator of the Annual Fund. His remarkable legacy includes the creation of the 50-Year Club, Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Economic Forum, as well participation in the campaigns for construction of the Hutton Sports Center, Argyros Forum, Beckman Hall, and the Law building. He also put his BA in Speech and Drama into effect as the Director of Special Events and Community Relations, where he planned the inaugural American Celebration. He was named Alumnus of the Year in 1993, and received the Bert C. Williams Lifetime Service Award in 2005 along with his wife, Diane ‘63.

In spite of his retirement in 1998, Vaughan has remained an active and dedicated alumnus, serving on the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors and also as the alumni representative to the Trustee Athletic Committee and the Chairman of the School of Communications Arts Advisory Board. He has also maintained a tireless devotion to the City of Orange, and has acted as a representative of Chapman University to the Orange Chamber of Commerce Board, Orange Elderly Services Board, the American Heart Association, Orange Chapter, and the YMCA Board of Directors, to name a few. His greatest impact on the community has been through Rotary International since 1980, and he served as President of the Orange Rotary Club before being elected to the office of District Governor in 1991. Vaughan’s extensive experience and service are a great credit to the Alumni Association, and he provides invaluable insight on all aspects of Chapman’s growth and success.
