William "Bill" Cumiford Member-at-Large Class: 1963 Degree: BA Major: History Term Expires: 05/31/09
From the Dean’s List to the History Department, Dr. Bill Cumiford ’63 has long been an active student and alumnus on campus. As a professor, Bill has an opportunity to interact with current students on a daily basis, and considers his position on the Alumni Board as intermediary between Chapman students and alumni: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to provide service to Chapman and to help inform other members, and alumni in general, what’s going on with the faculty and current students.”
As a student Bill was a member of Knights, a chairman of the student court, dorm council vice president, an election chairman, an Adelpho sponsor, and a representative to the Associated Men’s Students (among other things).
As a faculty member, Professor Cumiford has received the Delta Tau Delta Faculty Recognition Award and the Bill Womack Award, and is also a recipient of Chapman’s Certificate of Excellence in Teaching and in Service. While he is the only member of his family to attend or work at Chapman, he is a familiar face at many alumni events as well as plays, art exhibitions, special seminars, and workshops on campus.
