CU Hosts Big Brothers Big Sisters on Saturday, Feb. 7
ORANGE, Calif., Jan. 19, 2009 – Chapman University will welcome Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County for a full afternoon of fun activities for approximately 30 “little” brothers and sisters on the Orange campus on Saturday, February 7.
The “Big for a Day” event, sponsored by Chapman’s Alumni Association, will feature Chapman alumni, current students and other members of the university community volunteering to host and spend the day with the youngsters, ages 6 to 12. Activities on the campus will include games, a bounce house and a lunch, followed by a screening of the current Disney hit animated movie “Bolt” in the Paul and Daranne Folino Theatre inside Chapman’s Marion Knott Studios. “Big for a Day” will commence at 1 p.m. on the Bert Williams Mall (the lawn in front of Chapman’s main administration building, Memorial Hall). The children and their “Bigs” will arrive by bus and be treated to lunch, followed by games and other activities. The movie will screen at approximately 3 p.m. “Big for a Day events allow us to offer one-day opportunities to some of the children who are currently waiting to get matched to a Big Brother or Big Sister,” said Ashley Sattar of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. “These events allow us to engage groups of individuals and give them the chance to experience what it would be like to volunteer in our program.” Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the United States. The Orange County organization has been serving local children for 50 years, providing mentors for children ages 6-12 in communities across the county.
