Prospective Students

science_2

The food science graduate program at Chapman University prepares students for a variety of careers in the food, nutritional, pharmaceutical and related industries, in government and regulatory agencies, for service organizations and academic institutions.  Full-time students can complete the 30 unit program in three semesters.  Evening and weekend classes make this degree possible for working students.  The high caliber of our students is reflected in the fact that  our students have published numerous articles in peer reviewed academic journals in the last ten years, some with undergraduate co-authors.  Our placement rate of 100% reflects an incredibly high demand for our graduates.  Prospective employers have no difficulty identifying the excellent preparation and caliber of our graduates, whom they seek out year after year.  Our students are actively recruited from our program into high-paying jobs and career paths in the food industry, usually working in the research and development laboratories of top-ranking food companies and corporations.  Our graduate students readily gain admission into graduate programs of their choice, as well as medical schools, positions with the FDA and USDA, Peace Corps, and other non-governmental agencies.

Admission to the Program

An undergraduate degree in food science is not required for admission; because of its basic orientation, the program encourages applicants from a broad range of disciplinary interests. Recently admitted applicants have degrees in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, business, chemical and mechanical engineering as well as food science and nutrition.
