Prospective StudentsEntrance into the Department of Dance as a dance major is by audition only. Prospective students (including transfer students) must also complete the admission requirements for Chapman University, including the Dance Departmental Application. Talent scholarships will be determined during the entrance auditions. Students must declare a dance major and be accepted into the program to receive a talent scholarship. After auditioning, students will receive notification from Admissions if accepted into the university. Notification will then come from the Department of Dance if the student has been accepted as a major in the dance program. Talent scholarship awards will not be announced until the audition process is complete. Notification of acceptance into the Department of Dance is usually completed by the end of March, and notification of talent scholarship awards is usually completed by the end of April. All freshmen and transfer dance majors begin in the Bachelor of Arts degree program. Dance majors may audition for the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program after the completion of their sophomore or junior year. Students interested in completing the minor in dance performance must apply to the department and be approved. Please note that many dance classes are open to dance majors only. Classes designed for dance majors may accept non-majors, providing the class has room, the student is at the appropriate technical level and the instructor has given permission.

Dance majors at Chapman have the opportunity to join the Chapman Dance Alliance, an organization dedicated to educating and informing the Chapman community about the versatility and power of dance, within and beyond the boundaries of entertainment and performance. CDA gives students the opportunity to be part of numerous events, including a performance every fall which is entirely student produced and choreographed. |
