The goal of tutoring mathematics is to help students help themselves. Math tutors guide students to assist them to become independent learners.
The purpose of tutoring mathematics is to: 1. Help students understand lectures 2. Help prepare students for exams 3. Help students with study skills 4. Guide students on their homework assignments 5. Improve self esteem 6. Improve academic performance 7. Improve personal growth 8. Improve attitude toward mathematics 9. Provide greater congruence between math professor and learner 10. Offer a more individualized and structured learning experience 11. Motivate self-paced learning 12. Motivate self-directed learning 13. Help students succeed academically 14. Help students learn how to learn mathematics 15. Connect the link between education and learning mathematics 16. Help make success for process and less goal oriented
