Things to Consider Before Changing to the 2007/2008 Catalog
Your major, minor, or emphases requirements might be different in the new catalog. Review the requirements along with the new GE requirements. Click on the link to Catalogs on the left to view the 2007/2008 catalog.
- Review the GE website carefully and pay special attention to the GE Program Guidelines.
- Courses applied toward GE cannot double-count with other GE requirements.
- While some courses are approved for multiple GE areas, you will have to decide toward which one area these courses should apply.
- Courses used towards a major cannot apply toward the Inter/Multidisciplinary Cluster.
- The Inter/Multidisciplinary cluster can also be met by the completion of a minor or second major.
- A Maximum of 9 credits from a major can apply towards GE requirements.
- A maximum of 6 credits from a minor can apply towards GE requirements.
- Completion of a semester of Study Abroad will satisfy the 6-credit Global Study requirement. When applicable, those courses can still apply toward other GE requirements.
Transfer Work
- Students who are interested in using a non-traditional learning experience to satisfy either the Global Study or the Citizenship, Community Service requirements will need approval from the GE Committee.
- Transfer courses not equivalent to Chapman courses are eligible for GE approval and will be treated by their similarity to the spirit of the Chapman approved courses. A lab is required to be considered for the Natural Science Inquiry requirement unless the course is equivalent to one of the Chapman approved courses without a lab.
- Transfer credit approval for the Citizenship, Community, Service Requirement must be petitioned to the Registrar's Office and include a copy of the course syllabus.
- Transfer admits who earned a CSU GE Certification or IGETC Certification prior to admission to Chapman automatically satisfy the following: Shared Inquiry Areas, Global study, Citizenship, Community & Service, and Freshman Foundations. Remaining requirements include the Language Cluster and the Inter/Multidisciplinary cluster.
