Workshops 

The International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics (IFREE) has generously sponsored summer workshops for visiting graduate students, undergraduates and local high school students since its incorporation in 1997.

These workshops introduce students to Experimental Economics, attract potential economics majors and identify promising individuals for internships and pre- and post-doctoral fellowships.

IFREE is sponsoring its Seventeenth Graduate Student Workshop in Experimental Economics at ESI January 8-12, 2012. This workshop is free for graduate students interested in using Experimental Economics in their Ph.D. dissertation research. Participants are responsible for their travel costs; local hotel arrangements are covered by a generous IFREE grant. Participants also receive cash earnings from experiments each day. Thus, participants earn additional money as part of their learning experience, which can be used to offset their travel expenses. (All international students must receive approval from Chapman University’s international student office in order to receive payments from the experiments.)

The Vernon L. Smith High School Workshop in Experimental Economics introduces high school students to the concept of studying economics using laboratory methods. Two week-long workshops will be offered June 25-29 and July 2-3 & 5-6 of 2012. June 25-29 is open to traveling students only and July 2-3 & 5-6 is open to local commuting students only. High school students earn cash daily by participating in experiments. Students are responsible for their transportation; a limited number of travel scholarships are available for students traveling from outside Southern California.
