Understanding the diversity of this world begins with an understanding of the uniqueness inherent in the thinking and behavior of each of its citizens.

The Department of Psychology provides students with training that leads to a comprehensive understanding of human thinking and behavior. Our mission is to help students acquire a broad-based knowledge in the field of psychology as an empirical science of human behavior.  The departmen helps students develop critical thinking skills, written and verbal communication skills, and an evidence-based empirical approach to problem-solving.  All faculty are teacher-scholars committed to quality teaching, and the discovery of new knowledge.

  • At the undergraduate level, our goal is to prepare students either for graduate study and a career in psychology, or for a baccalaureate level career in human services.
  • At the graduate level, our goal is to provide academic and professional training for students to become competent, ethical, culturally sensitive, and systems oriented marriage and family therapists who can effectively assess, diagnose, and treat a diverse population of individuals, couples, and families
