Mathematics

Mathematics is the quantitative language of the social, biological, and physical sciences.  From financial analysis to space exploration, from civil engineering to the development of the Internet, applications of mathematics are crucial to nearly every modern human endeavor.

Chapman’s mathematics program, leading to the Bachelor of Science degree, is designed for students to pursue interests in pure or applied mathematics or mathematics education.  Students gain a solid foundation in mathematics and have opportunities to sample from among advanced mathematics and computer science topics.

Our mathematics program offers students a high degree of flexibility.   Many students choose to broaden their career prospects by combining the study of mathematics with a major or minor in business or management in Chapman’s highly respected Argyros School of Business and Economics.  Chapman requires a smaller number of required courses than many other universities and offers expanded options for electives in mathematics or computer science.

Students in the mathematics major prepare for a variety of careers, including actuary, financial analysis, science, mathematics education and pure mathematics research, engineering, and data security.

Students benefit from personalized instruction in small classes, all taught by experienced faculty.   In the Chapman tradition, faculty are accessible for discussions outside the classroom and for academic advisement.  At Chapman University, you are students and colleagues.
