Computer Information Systems

Computer Information Systems is the high tech business degree.  Managing the flow, storage, and dissemination of information is at the core of most large and medium-sized corporations.  In Chapman’s Computer Information Systems (CIS) program you will study accounting, economics, management and finance but you will also learn concepts such as systems analysis and database management that will drive the high tech businesses of the future.

The CIS program is career oriented.  It will prepare you to advance to higher-level positions in areas such as systems analysis, systems design, network security, database design, programming, project leadership and systems management.  The Department is a member of the Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance and is active in the Open Source Development community. This gives students opportunities to work with computer industry standards in software development.

As a CIS major, you will have the option to emphasize business and management in Chapman’s highly respected Argyros School of Business and Economics or add breadth and depth in the more technical aspects of computer science.  This, combined with Chapman’s liberal arts tradition, produces well-rounded graduates with the skills and abilities to meet the dynamic challenges of the marketplace.

Highly qualified students will be eligible for substantial merit scholarships funded by Chapman.  Additional financial aid is available based on need.

If you are a Business Administration major, the courses you will take in your freshman year are very much the same as the courses you would take as a Computer Information Systems major, but we encourage you to keep your options open by also taking CPSC 230 - Introduction to Computer Science.
