Suzanne SooHoo is a professor in the School of Education, the co-director of the Paulo Freire Democratic Project, and the endowed Hassinger Chair of Culture, Community and Collaboration. She is also the Co-Editor of the journal, Issues in Teacher Education and the Program co-hair of the Paulo Freire SIG in the American Education Research Association. She teaches courses in multicultural education, critical pedagogy, teacher research, and culturally responsive research methods at both the doctoral and master’s levels

Professor McLaren came to Chapman in 2013-14 as Distinguished Fellow in Critical Studies and joined the faculty at the College of Educational Studies full-time in August, 2014 as Distinguished Professor in Critical Studies and Co-Director of the Paulo Freire Democratic Project. An inspirational speaker and award-winning author, he served as Professor of Education in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, University of California-Los Angeles for 20 years, and Associate Professor of Educational Leadership, Renowned Scholar-in-Residence and Director of the Center for Education and Cultural Studies in the Department of Educational Leadership, School of Education and Allied Professions, Miami University of Ohio for 8 years. Professor McLaren earned his Ph.D. in Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (Institut d'études pédagogiques de l'Ontario de l'Université de Toronto) in 1984.
Professor McLaren has authored and edited over fifty books whose themes include multicultural education, critical literacy, sociology of education, critical ethnography, educational policy, postcolonial criticism, continental philosophy and critical social theory, and critical pedagogy. His writings have been translated into more than 20 languages. He works with teachers, teacher unions, university faculties, ministries of education and social justice organizations worldwide and holds several honorary professorships in China. He is affiliated with universities and social justice organizations throughout Latin America and the Caribbean as well as Europe and Southeast Asia, and is the inspiration for Instituto McLaren de Pedagogia Critica, Mexico.
He has received numerous awards for his teaching, mentorship and research, including the Outstanding Educator in America Award from the Association of Educators in Latin American and the Caribbean. He is Honorary Chair Professor, Northeast Normal University, China; Honorary Professor, Changchun Normal University, China, and Adjunct Professor, Zhejiang Normal University, China. Professor McLaren is Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Commerce, Fellow of the American Educational Research Association and Distinguished Fellow in Critical Studies in Education, School of Critical Studies in Education, Faculty of Education, University of Auckland, New Zealand. The Faculty of Education, University of Auckland has also initiated the annual Peter McLaren Upstander Lecture to be hosted by the Annual International Critical Research in Applied Theater Symposium.

Tom Wilson came to Chapman University in 1992 to direct the Masters of Art in Education program. Currently, Dr. Wilson guides the Paulo Freire Democratic Project and has lectured and conducted workshops in the US as well as Canada, England, Poland, Russia, and Scotland. His lectures focus on themes of democratic education, organizational behavior, educational ethics, moral education, critical pedagogy, and social justice. He has made more than 100 presentations at various academic conferences and similar venues.

Anaida Colón-Muñiz is currently an associate professor at Chapman University, Orange. For the last 13 years, she has served in various roles for the College of Educational Studies. Her research and broad interests include bilingual education, transfer and maintenance of heritage languages and English language development. She also focuses her work on language policy in education here and abroad, and the language and culture of Puerto Rico. In addition, she continues to pursue issues of civil rights in education, literacy and biliteracy affecting Latino youth.

Dr. Lilia D. Monzó is Assistant Professor of Education in the College of Educational Studies at Chapman University. Her recent scholarship and research draw on revolutionary critical pedagogy to interrogate and confront the educational and sociopolitical contexts impacting Latino communities in the United States and América Latina. In her view, local realities and cultural formations, such as racism and patriarchy, must always be examined in relation to the totality of global capitalism.
