Internship Credential Information

What is an Internship?

An Internship allows you to be employed as the teacher of record while you are completing your credential program.  There are usually two types of Internship Credentials:

What does it mean to be an Intern?

  • An intern assumes full teaching and legal responsibility for their classroom from the first day of the teaching assignment as a paid employee of the District for at least one academic year.
  • The intern is responsible for maintaining up-to-date records of course plans, lesson plans, and unit plans.

What does having an Intern Credential mean?

The Internship Credential has the same legal status as the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) Preliminary Credential, except that it is only valid in one school district or consortium.  For this reason, interns must have a contract before a credential can be issued.  Each intern candidate is to work under the direct and continuing supervision of a Chapman University Supervisor and District Support Provider (if appropriate) who provides general support at the classroom level of the cooperating school.

How can I apply or get started on the University Internship?

Your campus advisor will delineate the steps for completing the Internship Credential Program. Please refer to our Entry Checklist page for more information.  An Entry Checklist (PDF) outlines the requirements needed prior to applying for the Internship Credential must be completed by the Intern Candidate and their Program Advisor.  To review an Individual Support plan that you are required to have in order to complete an Internship, please review the following:
