The Monte Smith Endowment Fund

Ensuring the dreams of a pioneer come true for today’s students

Monte SmithMonte Smith is the founding father of Chapman University’s Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) and served with distinction as a professor, mentor, and Head Athletic Trainer from 1973 to 1992. He worked tirelessly to develop the athletic training major, while providing health care to thousands of student-athletes during his 20-year career at Chapman.

The current athletic training staff continues to provide excellent health care to the Chapman University community, while the ATEP continues in the fine academic

tradition that Monte initiated in 1974 with the program achieving its initial national accreditation in 2004 and now supporting more than 90 undergraduate students majoring in Athletic Training.

Our goal is to raise at least $25,000 to establish the Monte Smith Endowment Fund.

This endowment will support Chapman’s athletic training students, including funding instructional aids and therapeutic modality equipment, research equipment, book allotments, and travel expenses for students speaking at and attending educational workshops and clinical symposia.

Your help is critical in continuing the financial momentum needed to maintain Monte’s legacy. Interested in making dreams come true? Please contact Program Director Ky Kugler, EdD, ATC, at kekugler@chapman.edu or 714-997-6642 for more information or simply make a pledge today.
