Answers to FAQs

  • The Ph.D. in Education has 3 areas of emphasis: Cultural and Curricular Studies, Disability Studies, and School Psychology.

  • The program uses a cohort model with approximately six students in each emphasis, for a total of 18 students, beginning each year in the fall semester.

  • The program is only offered on the Orange campus. 

  • Classes are offered Monday thru Thursday from 4-7pm or 7-10pm.  No online classes are offered.

  • Tuition is $960 per semester unit.

  • There is a very low student-to-faculty ratio, with close collaboration between students and doctoral faculty on publications, presentations, and grant proposals.

  • There is opportunity for full-time (9 units or more) or part-time (6-9 units) study.

  • The program consists of 57 semester units and can be completed in approximately three years of full-time or four years of part-time study.

  • A master’s degree is required prior to admission.

  • Verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing GRE scores are required.

  • Acceptance into the program is based on an evaluation of the “whole” student, with no single criterion used to base an admission decision. That is why cut scores for the GRE or GPA are not included in marketing materials.

  • There is an on-campus interview for those applicants who pass the initial paper screening.
